Forro After Dark
Despite NPR's approval, I love this band Forro in the Dark. Brad and I caught them opening up for Bebel Gilberto at the Paradise tonight. Had to leave during Bebel's overwrought, painfully hip set, which even with Forro backing her up was too much to take; but the first hour and a half of the night was all tenor flute, bongos, bass and bounce. Apparently FITD are getting a lot of attention since David Byrne sat in w/them at SXSW this year - and well deserved.
I love the Boston Brazilian music crowds, coming out of the woodwork for somewhat rare performances like this. Similar fun was had in a much larger room when Juan Luis Guerra came to the Agannis last winter.
