Gone, Missing

This story just keeps getting stranger. Theories:

1. Went crazy.

2. Fraudulent death claim to collect life insurance.

3. Just kind of checked out. Probably went to an island country somewhere, a former colony with a loose infrastructure and few rules. Why?
a. Sick of rat race.
b. Bad investment choices.
c. Girl trouble.
d. Unhealthy addictions or habits.
